Frequently Asked Questions

What is tallow?

Tallow is derived from cows through a careful rendering process that transforms suet into tallow. Historically, it was preferred by our ancestors for skincare. However, its use waned over time as animal-based products were gradually replaced by synthetic substances, petroleum derivatives, chemically processed plant extracts, and artificial vitamins.

Where do you source your tallow?

We care a lot about the quality and sustainability of our products! We only use grass-fed and grass-finished tallow from pastured cows, which is the best kind you can get. This is key for its nutrient density and ideal fatty acid ratios. Our tallow is sourced from a farm based in Illinois, USA.

Are your ingredients organic?

YES! All of our ingredients, including our essential oils, are rated USDA organic.

Is tallow OK for oily or acne-prone skin?

Our tallow formulas are extremely beneficial for acne prone skin, as they contain so many healing, inflammatory, antibacterial, and soothing properties. Since tallow closely mimics our skin's natural oils, it is very compatible for most skin types. Tallow is non-comedogenic meaning it won't clog your pores and will not cause breakouts for most people. If the whipped tallow feels too oily right at first, remember that a little goes a long way & it will soak in over time!

Is it safe to use on my baby?

Tallow is nature's perfect moisturizer, diaper rash cream, & ointment for baby's sensitive skin. Our whipped tallow balms are made with all-natural, organic, non-toxic ingredients to hydrate and nourish your baby's skin without using any synthetic chemicals or potential irritants. If your baby is especially sensitive, we recommend the BASICS Balm which contains no essential oils. As with any product, check with your pediatrician before adding something to your baby's routine.

What is the shelf life?

We recommend that you use up all of your tallow product within 6-12 months of opening your jar. All of our ingredients are very stable, but it is best to keep the lid tightly secured when not in use. Also store your tallow in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight to preserve its light, whipped texture. For long-term storage, keep your tallow in the refrigerator to prolong it's shelf-life.

Why do tallow balms differ in color, consistency, and scent?

Our whipped tallow balms and lip balms can differ slightly from batch to batch. Since we use natural, organic ingredients, each batch is not created 100% equal. This does not mean the benefits or contents are different. Tallow, the key ingredient, is influenced by seasonal and animal variations. Our handcrafted product's texture may shift with temperature changes, solidifying in cooler environments and softening in warmer ones. Its efficacy persists even if melted and re-solidified.

What is your return policy?

Your satisfaction is our #1 priority! If you are not 100% satisfied with your tallow balm, please contact us so we can reconcile the issue with a refund or replacement.
